Material can be removed with a vulcanite burr to prevent interference by lingually placed lateral incisors. The lingual flanges should contact the posterior teeth. The flanges can be cut away to accommodate rapid patalal expanders. The buccal flanges should not contact the teeth or the gingiva.
The Lower teeth should not bite behind the bite plane on closure. The bite plane can be extended by heating the enclosed plastic disk and the OPA with a small flame and luting them together as you would wax.
The disk can also be used to extend the labial flange to fit over any brackets on the incisors.
Always chill before placing OPA in the mouth.
As with all appliances parental and patient cooperation is vital. Go over all safety precautions with parents/guardians and patients before completing appliance fitting.
