How the Swivel Add-On Works

The use of a swivel holds the key to reducing the amount of force on the Class I side. By placing the swivel on the correct side, you essentially eliminate the lateral force on that side, while keeping the appliance in proper position. The non-swivel side receives the full force and moves the Class II molar effectively, allowing it to catch up with the Class I side.

The Three- step Easy Conversion

Use an ordinary facebow, a plier, a swivel, a diagonal cutter and heatless stone.

Step 1. Create a 90† bend to the occlusal, on the distal end of the innerbow of any facebow on the class I side. Flatten the buccal and lingual surfaces with the heatless stone for better grip and to stop rotation of the swivel after crimping the swivel.

Step 2. Place swivel on the new 90† bent wire and secure using a diagonal cutter with a double crimp.

Step 3. Place the facebow on the patient one-millimeter off center towards the heavy force side and check and adjust tension. The amount of force difference on either side can be determined by simply pulling the innerbow on each side separately, or by asking the patient to tell you which side has the stronger force. Force gauges on the headcap or neckstrap will also read the tension difference.
