"Headgear was first used in the early 1800's.  Throughout time, modifications have been made, however, basically the appliance has changed very little.  Headgear is an essential part of an orthodontic practice, and lack of cooperation can reduce the effectiveness of the best treatment plan and the most most promising treatment mechanics"

In 1974, Aldyne Corp. introduced a timing headgear.  Dr Northcutt reported on it in the JCO claiming patient compliance increased from 35 to 50 hours per week to over 100 hours when knowing headgear wear was being monitored.

All previous systems recorded total headgear wear time. They could be fooled.  It is more difficult to  fool Compliance Science System.
To fool Compliance Science System,a patient must place their headgear every day on an object for the specific number of hours the orthodontist requested.  It must be removed each day.  If not...you'll know.
Why?  Compliance Science system shows sessions of wear and their duration  If a patient has one session of 300 hours, you know it.  They don't get credit and reward from you for such behavior.
Advancements in microelectronics since 1974 have allowed a small  reliable package to pack such a high degree of functionality.
